School writing workshops
Help your students discover what they can write.
A surprising character, an unexpected question, a different way to begin: sometimes that is all it takes to get a student writing. Our school visits give students practical ways to develop a story, with time to try their ideas and ask questions.
We plan around your students and teaching goals.
Tell us the students’ age group, class or group size and the writing skills you want to develop. We discuss the time available and agree on a workshop that suits your school, rather than expecting every class to follow the same session.
The focus might be finding ideas, building a character, planning a narrative or improving a scene. We confirm the session format, materials, location, availability and costs with you.
Students see how a story is built—and try it.
We use prompts, examples and discussion to show how an idea becomes a piece of writing. Students have opportunities to develop their own ideas, make choices about what happens and put those choices into words.
We ask questions that help them add useful detail, consider a reader and work through a difficult starting point. Activities and expectations are discussed around the age group and the session’s purpose.
Give the class a next step in their writing.
We discuss how the workshop can connect with the work students are doing in class. Depending on the agreed format, students may develop a plan, a character or a short passage they can continue afterwards.
Teachers can enquire with preferred dates, year levels and the outcome they have in mind. We will discuss what can realistically be covered in the time available.
Plan a writing visit for your school.
Send your year levels, group size, location and preferred dates, along with the skills you want to focus on. We’ll discuss a suitable session and costs.
