Book formatting

Open your book. See it as a reader will.

Your words deserve pages that are a pleasure to read. We arrange the chapters, photographs and details into a consistent layout, so readers can settle into the story and you can feel proud to put the finished book in their hands.

We plan the reading experience with you.

We look at your manuscript, its length and the photographs or other material it contains. Then we discuss the book size, intended readers and print or digital format. This helps us choose an appropriate layout and understand the files your printer or publishing platform will need.

Bring the most settled version of the writing, along with photographs, captions and any existing specifications. We explain any preparation still needed and agree on the layout work and costs.

We turn the manuscript into book pages.

We arrange the type, spacing, margins and page numbers, and develop consistent chapter openings and headings. Contents pages, front matter, photographs and captions are brought into the layout so the individual parts work together.

For a photograph-rich memoir or family history, we discuss where the images belong and how readers will identify the people and places. The layout is developed for the format you have chosen.

You see the pages before they are finalised.

We provide the agreed page proof for you to review. You check the order, captions, names and presentation; we work through the agreed layout corrections before preparing the final files.

If the writing still needs substantial changes, it is useful to address those before final layout. We can explain where editing or proofreading fits, so you can plan the work without repeatedly rebuilding the same pages.

Let’s see how your words could look in print.

Tell us the manuscript’s length, whether it includes photographs and how you plan to publish or print. We’ll discuss the layout work and files you need.
